The third time that I made it, the nut butter was perfect. The second time through, it came out very loose and wet, with a similar texture and consistency to what you might find with Trader Joe's raw or roasted almond butter. Therefore, I scooped it up and ran it through the grinder one more time. Once the machine warmed up, the rest of the nut butter came out fairly oily, albeit somewhat pasty. So the first few nuts came out like powder. The Norwalk's grinder takes a few seconds to warm up. (Your outcomes will vary depending on your own appliances.) The Nut Butter These are my learnings, based on the specific appliances that I used. That is 11X less sugar than Nutella! I would have to add a painfully high amount of maple syrup to even approach the levels that Nutella achieves. After doing some calculations, I discovered that a 2-tablespoon serving of my Nutella alternative contains just 1.92g of sugar! The rest is mostly nuts and raw cacao. Real Nutella is loaded with 21g of sugar per 2-tablespoon serving. Healthwise, there is a vast difference between store-bought Nutella and making it at home. This is quite common when you experiment in the kitchen! The key is to not let a less-than-stellar outcome derail the experimentation process. ![]() This will likely settle the issue with consistency. Although I was hoping to avoid including more ingredients, the fourth attempt will likely include almond milk and an oil like avocado oil. My first attempt came out delicious but very course. Sometimes the first few attempts turn out awful. Trial-and-Error in the KitchenĬoming up with a new recipe involves a ton of trial and error. Preheat oven to 350☏ and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In fact, it's nearly 60% sugar by weight! According to the nutrition label on the jar, a 2-tablespoon (37g) serving of Nutella contains 21g of sugar, which comes out to about 5 teaspoons of sugar (!).Īlthough Nutella also contains hazelnuts (in the form of hazelnut paste), there is so little in the recipe that the nutritional value of those nuts is marginal at best. This is once-in-a-while food for people who want to indulge it certainly shouldn’t be treated as an everyday meal. While we love Devour’s food, we have to warn you against eating it regularly. You can see why we were puzzling over the UFC’s endorsement of this pizza, right?ĭevour’s “The Carnivore” pizza is big on flavor, but it’s also big on calories. If you eat a half of this pizza, you’ll end up consuming 950 calories and 2,100 mg of sodium. First off, how do you even cut this into fifths? Secondly, anyone who’s being honest with themselves knows that a half pizza is a more realistic serving size if you’re considering this a meal and not just a light snack. Now, Devour somehow thinks a good serving size for this pizza is 1/5 of a pizza. This is definitely the sort of pizza that would benefit from a BBQ sauce. This flavor is super subtle, to the point where we’re not sure if we were imagining it or not, but it made us wonder why Devour didn’t use a BBQ sauce instead of a red sauce. (To be fair, pepperoni-lovers might be more at home with Devour’s Three Way Pepp Pizza.)Īnother strange thing about this pizza is that the sauce has an almost-BBQ-like flavor to it. Obviously, Team Sausage was very enthusiastic about the amount of sausage here, while Team Pepp felt like they got the short end of the stick. We’re divided on this because some Freezer Meal Frenzy staffers prefer sausage to pepperoni, while others prefer pepperoni to sausage. Because of that, the meat selection seems skewed heavily in favor of the sausage. ![]() Now, there’s pepperoni here, but it’s in the diced cube form and not the classic round slices.
